Rice Farming Update

Rice Farmers Update – November 9th

We have not receive the last of the second crop as of today. The weather is playing havoc with the harvest. We have about 300 acres to come in. Rice Farmers Coop has received 172,000 cwt. of second crop. This has been one of the best second crops in recent years. I will send the final figures as soon as we receive the remaining acres.

Attached you should find a picture of yours truly and two former members from 1982. At little RFC history.

The new planthopper has been identified. The little pest is Tagosodes oryzicolus aka rice delphacid according to Mo Way. He has not found any literature that says it feeds on wheat, but it there is a possibility. Mo would like to get with any wheat farmers in the area so that he can monitor the crop for this pest. Give me a call if you have any wheat. Since this pest is more tropical it may not survive the winter. We need to be proactive just in case the little fellow makes it through to winter. Several of the area consultants and industry folks will be meeting with Mo in the next few weeks to learn more about the pest and what can be done with it.

Merry Christmas,

Bobby Little and the folks at Rice Farmers Coop
