Rice Farming Update

2017 Rice Farming Yield Reports Rice Farming Update

Here are the yield reports for the 17 crop. Several Matagorda fields suffered severe blackbird damage in both crops. Hurricane Harvey did inflict yield loss to the late first crop, and some of the second crop. Hopefully, they make sense. I will send the total field report in the near future.

Remember, the Western Rice Belt Production Conference on Wednesday, January 24, 2018.

There has been a change in the State FSA Committee members. Rice Farmers Coop member and past RFC President has been representing you on that committee for the past several years. It has been announced that Michael Skalicky of Ganado has been appointed and approved to serve on the committee. Please thank Glen for his service to the ag community. He did a fine job representing you on the state committee. I am confident that Michael will do the same. We are fortunate to have local representation on the Texas FSA committee.

A reminder that the Rice Council has sent out ballots for their Board of Directors last week. Please remember to vote. As with any organization, it is important to be involved.

Hope to see you next Wednesday.
